Is Board and Train Right for me?

Expectations:

Dog training, like everything else in the world, takes time and patience. It also requires regular upkeep and practice. No matter how long your dog goes away to 'Charm School', if you, the owner, are unwilling or unable to practice the skills at home, your pooch will lose them! Plain and Simple.

At Candid Canines we pride ourselves in communicating honestly and clearly with our clients. That means being blunt about Board and Train. If there is anyway you can do the training yourself at home either with private lessons or group classes, we always suggest this route over Board and Train.

Lets be real here! Board and Train makes Candid Canines a good chuck of money, but we're not all about the Cash. We want our clients and our dogs to be successful and happy in their homes. Board and Train might be a good fit for you, but be sure you're signing up for the hard work that comes with it and not for a magic wand to wave over and 'fix' your dog.

We do not take board and train dogs whose owners have not committed to private lessons, at least three sessions, before the board and train. This is to ensure we are working with owners who are actually going to do do the work and help their dogs be successful upon returning home!

Reality:

If you have read and still think Board and Train might be the best fit for you, check out our list!

Board And Train Is a Good Option For Me When:

  • I am traveling for a week or more and want to give my dog some skills while I'm away rather than just keeping them at a regular kennel.

    • And fully intend to practice with my dog and keep training after the board and train is complete.

  • I am physically unable to do the ground work for training but certainly can maintain after the fact.

  • I am located in an area such that I could not reasonably have a trainer come to my house for private lessons regularly, attend classes myself or come to a training facility for private lessons.

    • But am able/willing to come to the trainers facility for the limited amount of time during the Board and Train. And I have done the prerequisite 3 private lessons ahead of time.

  • I do not have the time to attend class or lay the foundation work but do have the time to practice once the skills are set.

'Fix The Dog'

Candid Canines has heard this phrase too many times. If you are wanting to do Board and Train so that you can send your dog away and when they come back everything is 'PERFECT!' then Candid Canines is not for you. Training takes work and practice. You will not see results unless you too are committed to your dog's training program. Candid Canines does not take clients who are looking for Magic Wands, Quick Fixes and Band Aid Solutions. These clients are not going to be successful with their dog's training.

Well that was Intense

Yes it was! But we feel strongly about realistic expectations and good work ethics here at Candid Canines. We tell it to you straight so you can make informed and realistic decisions.
